Drive Smart Georgia has the largest testing and practice facility in Atlanta.
Highlights of this awesome benefit for our students include the following.
On-Site Testing and Practice:
Each of our locations features at least one set (and sometimes multiple sets) of cones onsite - or nearby - to facilitate both our road tests and practice sessions. This arrangement allows us to offer an on-site road test, saving our students a trip to the DDS. Most driving schools in Georgia are not approved to provide
on-site road tests.
Enhanced Practice Facilities:
Unlike many driving schools in Georgia, which often use schools or churches to set up temporary cones for parking practice, our facilities are purpose-built. These traditional set-ups can limit lesson time, but our investment in excellent facilities ensures that students have ample space and resources to fully master essential driving skills.
State-of-the-Art Training Center:
In addition to our regular facilities, we also rent the largest training center. The outdoor area is located in the parking lot at 6000 Medlock Bridge Rd. Stores at this Johns Creek shopping center include Egg Harbor, No Longer Bound, and Crunch Fitness.
The center includes multiple practice areas, including a spacious parking lot designed specifically for maneuvering practice, giving our students the comprehensive training they need to stay safe on the road.
Although the outdoor practice areas are used primarily for driving lessons and road tests throughout the day, we do open them to Drive Smart Georgia students from 6 am - 8 am and
8 pm - 10 pm, 7 days a week.
If you encounter a Drive Smart Georgia vehicle, please yield to it so you don't interrupt a potential road test or driving lesson.
If these times don't work for you, here are TWO OTHER OPTIONS to practice driving skills.
Option #1: Practice at the DDS
The DDS allows new drivers to practice parallel parking at a DDS location in their own vehicle, and when road tests are not being conducted in the practice area. Unfortunately, the DDS does not allow students to practice parallel parking in an official driving school vehicle. However, our students can use the cones at the DDS when they’re in a family vehicle.
The three closest DDS locations for practicing parallel parking maneuvers are:
Cumming: 400 Aquatic Circle, Cumming, GA 30040
Alpharetta: 11575 Maxwell Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30009
Norcross: 2211 Beaver Ruin Rd, Norcross, GA 30071
Road tests are not conducted on Sundays and Mondays, making both days ideal for our students to practice at a DDS location. Additionally, the DDS is open from 8 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, so utilizing their cones before 8 am or after 6 pm on these days also works.
Option #2: Purchase collapsible traffic cones and practice
at your convenience!
Amazon sells a set of four collapsible 18” traffic cones for just $27.90. This set of cones can be easily folded down to a height of 0.9 inches, making storage in your trunk super easy.
When setting up the cones, the area for parallel parking is 22 ft. long by 10 ft. deep (DDS dimensions).
When your teen is done practicing their parallel parking skills, just stack the cones up and place them in the included storage bag.
