parallel parking practice

Our students have three options to practice parallel parking.

Option #1: Practice at the DDS:

The DDS allows new drivers to practice parallel parking at a DDS location in their own vehicle, and when road tests are not being conducted in the practice area. Unfortunately, the DDS does not allow students to practice parallel parking in an official driving school vehicle. However, our students can use the cones at the DDS when they’re in a family vehicle.

The three closest DDS locations for practicing parallel parking maneuvers are:

Cumming: 400 Aquatic Circle, Cumming, GA 30040

Alpharetta: 11575 Maxwell Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30009

Norcross: 2211 Beaver Ruin Rd, Norcross, GA 30071

Road tests are not conducted on Sundays and Mondays, making both days ideal for our students to practice at a DDS location. Additionally, the DDS is open from 8 am to 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, so utilizing their cones on Sunday or Monday or before 8 am or after 6 pm also works.

Option #2: Practice at a Drive Smart Georgia Location:

If you want to practice parallel parking at one of our locations, we kindly ask that you do so when we don’t conduct driving lessons.

We conduct lessons seven days a week during the following times:

Monday – Sunday: Starting as early as 7:00 am and usually finishing by 8:30 pm.

We prefer that our students use our cones when we are closed to minimize interruptions during road tests or in-car instruction. We truly appreciate your cooperation.

Option #3: Purchase collapsible traffic cones and practice at your convenience!

Amazon sells a set of four collapsible 18” traffic cones for just $28.90. This set of collapsible traffic cones can be easily folded down to a height of 0.9 inches, making storage in your trunk super easy.

When setting up the cones, the area for parallel parking is 22 ft. long by 10 ft. deep (DDS dimensions).

When your teen is done practicing their parallel parking skills, just stack the cones up and place them in the included storage bag.
